Daniel Moreno De Luca, MD, MSc
Biography
Dr. Daniel Moreno De Luca is intrigued by the genetic basis of neuropsychiatric disorders, and combines his expertise in clinical psychiatry and neurogenetics to focus on the genetic underpinnings of autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders. He received his MD from the Universidad Industrial de Santander, followed by his Master’s in Neuroscience at the Université Pierre et Marie Curie – Sorbonne Universités and Postdoctoral Fellowship in Neurogenetics at Emory University. He then completed his Psychiatry training at Yale and joined the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Brown. Specifically, he studies the role of rare genetic variants as risk factors for neuropsychiatric disorders and how they shape and may ultimately impact the neurobehavioral profile and clinical management of people who bear them. Together with his collaborators, he identified the 17q12 deletion as a risk factor for autism and schizophrenia by pulling together genetic data from over 70,000 people worldwide, and has expanded his work on this and other rare genetic variants within the context of the Simons Foundation and the Psychiatric Genetics Consortium. During his fellowship at Brown, he served as the Chief Fellow for Research, and was honored to receive the Haffenreffer House Staff Excellence Award. Following fellowship, he continued his clinical and research work at Bradley Hospital and Brown University in genetic psychiatry and precision medicine.
