Laura Yahr Nelson, MD
Biography
Dr. Laura Yahr Nelson completed psychiatry residency at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. She graduated from University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Her undergraduate studies in Psychology, Social Welfare, and Criminal Justice were also at the University of Wisconsin. Her research experience includes working in Dr. Ned Kalin's lab at UW-Madison studying the neurocircuitry of fear in non-human primates, conducting Psychopathy Checklist: Screening Version interviews in a forensic psychiatric population, and a poster presentation at AAPL 2013 on general psychiatry residents' exposure to and comfort with court proceedings related to state laws surrounding involuntary hospitalization. She was a clinic coordinator for the MEDiC student-run free psychiatric clinic during medical school and continued in leadership roles during her residency, including while serving as a chief resident. Following fellowship, Dr. Yahr Nelson became an attending psychiatrist at Aurora Behavioral Health in Wisconsin.
