India Braver, MD
Biography
Dr. India Braver grew up in New Jersey and attended The College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia where she double majored in economics and government. She later went on to complete a post-baccalaureate premedical program at the University of Pennsylvania, with a special interest in the social and economic determinants of health and healthcare policy. She graduated medical school with her MD from the California University of Science and Medicine before returning home to New Jersey to complete her adult psychiatry residency through a New York Medical College program. During this time, India also took numerous improvisational comedy classes in both Los Angeles and New York City, and she hosted her own monthly improv show in Morristown, NJ. She brought her creative background into her clinical work by designing and implementing a weekly improvisational theater-based therapy group at an adolescent partial hospitalization program during her residency training. She blended the art and science of medicine via her own unique curriculum, combining classic improvisational theater games with principles from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, including modules on emotional identification and cognitive distortions. In her free time, she enjoys visiting national parks with her husband and dogs (they have traveled to 29 together!) She self-publishes the Bark Rangers children’s book series on Amazon detailing their adventures.
